OTHER PEOPLE’S IDEAS
LET THERE BE LIGHT (To the Editor.) Sir, —Is it not time we were given additional light, especially in Queen Street? It seems extraordinary that we, an inland town, have to suffer an almost total extinction of light, whereas the capital city, Petone, Hutt, etc., are treated much more generously. The writer has been advised by travellers, who visit cities and towns throughout the length and breadth of New Zealand, that we are the most “blacked out” of the lot. In view of the damage to parapets, etc., to many of the buildings in Queen Street, it is positively dangerous to proceed down this street at night time. If we cannot secure more adequate lighting over the wholb town, surely we should be able to do so in the main street. Apart from the danger aspect, let us have a little more light to dispej some of the gloom, and help us allyto forget the recent earthquake. —I am, etc. LET THERE BE LIGHT'. Masterton, August 6.
