INHUMAN TREATMENT

OF JEWS IN FRANCE REPORTED VATICAN PROTEST TO PETAIN. MARSHAL PETITIONS GERMANS. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 1.5 p.m.) LONDON, August 6. The Nuncio is reported to have sought an assurance that consideration would be given to Papal action in view of the Christian precepts involved. Marshal Petain petitioned the Germans, through Laval, to cease the deportations but Laval’s intercession was fruitless.
