CONTINUING IN SOME AREAS
SOVIET TROOPS RESISTING GALLANTLY.
BUT FORCED TO MAKE WITHDRAWALS.
(By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, August 6. The Russians in some sectors southward of Bielaya Glina have repulsed the Germans with heavy casualties, but in other sectors the Russians, unable to ward off great pressure have withdrawn to new positions.
The “Red Star” reports that numerous German attacks yesterday southward of Kushchovsk were repulsed by Cossacks, tenaciously holding the banks of a small river. Another Russian unit is firmly holding a line of hills. A ferocious tank battle is. going on near the railway region of Koyelnikovo, where the Germans on Tuesday launched a big offensive. The Russians at some points, unable to withstand incessant attacks, were forced to withdraw. Big tank battles continue in the Kletskaya area.
