STATEMENT BY NEW PREMIER. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, August 5. The new Prime Minister of Turkey, Mr Saracoglu, in a broadcast from Ankara today, reaffirmed his country’s efforts to remain neutral. “If our territory should be attacked,” he said, “we shall fight to the last man. That is why we keep a strong army at the ready.” He described the Anglo-Turkish pact as a fundamental part of Turkish policy, and declared that Turkey will be equally neutral under this pact as under her pact with Germany. It is reported that 9000 tons of wheat from the British Empire will be delivered to Turkey next month to tide her over till the next harvest.
