CASES OF MENINGITIS
FEW REPORTED IN WAIRARAPA. FIVE IN BOROUGH IN THE PAST EIGHT MONTHS. Odd cases of cerebro-spinal meningitis have occurred in the Wairarapa during the past few months, though the disease is in nothing like epidemic proportions, .the Health Department district inspector (Mr F. Ellett) and the Masterton Borough inspector (Mr T. B. Russell) stated today. If anything, the inspectors said, the incidence of cases in the Wairarapa district had been even less than it was in other parts of New Zealand. Since December five cases have occurred in Masterton borough, one each in December, March, April, June and July. About the same number, have occurred in other parts of the district. The avoidance of crowds, plenty of fresh air, well ventilated rooms and wholesome food are the best safeguards against the disease. The situation in the Wairarapa m respect to this disease, Mr Ellett said, was at present quite satisfactory.
