A. & P. ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL MEETING HELD YESTERDAY SATISFACTION EXPRESSED. HOPES OF OFFSETTING LOSS. The annual meeting of the Masterton A. and P. Association was held yesterday afternoon, the president, Mr R. E. Gordon Lee, presiding over an attendance of 20 members. In moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, Mr Lee said that the committee and members had to congratulate themselves on completing the year as well as they did, in view of the fact that no show was held. Arrangements for a show had been advanced to such a position that the association had incurred a good deal of expense. After the grounds were taken over quite a lot of work had to be carried out by the association, in which connection he would like to ’ thank Mr P. R. Welch for his co-operation. Everything had been carried out very smoothly. He would also like to thank those responsible for the care taken of the grounds and buildings. The association held the ram fair as usual and he believed there would be no difficulty in that respect in the future. After speaking regarding the position of caretaker, he said he did not propose to refer in detail to world affairs but he would say that, as representative of the A. and P. Association on the Primary Production Council, if the position were not watched land might be impoverished by too much cropping. Some of their land, he said, might not be worth, when the war was over, what it was worth today. He thanked the secretary for reducing his salary by £lOO as from July 1 and acknowledged the assistance he had received from the officers and members of the committee.
Mr-C. C. Ruby (hon treasurer) drew attention to the loss of £245 for the year. That loss, he said, might possibly be offset by revenue which was to be received for the ground. It was hoped that members would continue to pay their subscriptions. There would be a certain amount of wear and tear on the buildings and grounds which would have to be met later on.
On the whole, the association had come out very well, said Mr J. M. James, Avho expressed the hope that by next year the tide would have been turned.
Officers were elected as follow: — Patron, Sir William Perry; president, Mr R. E. Gordon Lee; vice-presidents, Messrs T. A. Brown and P. F. Fagan; hon treasurer, Mr C. C. Ruby. Committee members were elected in accordance with the nominations already published. Mi’ D. J. Cooper, a new member, replied on behalf of the committee.
Messrs Keith & Co. were reappointed' auditors and Messrs M. C. Armstrong and S. Fletcher hon. veterinary surgeons.
It was decided to write to the Principal of Wairarapa College, expressing the association’s appreciation of the work done at the last ram fair by boys of the agricultural class. ’' In reply to a point raised by Mr A. Keir, the chairman said definitely that a ram fair would be held this coming year.
Thanks to the president for his activities during the year was expressed by Mr J. M. James.
