CARTERTON
THE DAIRY INDUSTRY REPAIRS TO DAMAGED FACTORY. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Parkvale Dairy Factory, which was damaged by the recent earthquakes is being repaired by a gang of workmen and should be ready for operations when the new season is opened on Monday. Personal Items. The Postmaster-General (Mr P. Webb) accompanied by Mr Young, Director-General of the Post and Telegraph Department, visited Carterton yesterday and inspected the Carterton Post Office and the damage occasioned by the recent earthquake. They left later for Masterton and Eketahuna. Mr and Mrs George Benge, of Carterton, have received a message that their eldest son, Pte. G. A. Benge is missing. Mr J. D. Baybutt, who recently returned from the Middle East, was a visitor to Carterton on Monday. Mr Baybutt will make his .headquarters at Carterton in connection with the duties associated with a “Borer Cure” firm which he has joined. Pte. Norman F. Teal, of Carterton, has been invalided home from the Middle East. He is a cot case and is at present in the Wellington Hospital. His wife left for Wellington this morning. Mr Frank Rawlings, of Broadway, has received the news of the death of his mother, Mrs E. Rawlings, at Palmerston North yesterday, at the age of 86 years. She was born in England and had resided in Greytown and the Matarawa district, for over 50 years. There are two' sons and three daughters left to mourn their loss. The sons are Messrs F. J. W. Rawlings (Carterton), H. Rawlings (Hamilton), and the daughters, Mesdames Robert Gallon (Matarawa), Thos. Conwell (Palmerston North), and J. Nicol (Palmerston North). One daughter predeceased her some years ago. Football. The following is the draw for Saturday next:--A grade: College v. Masterton, at Masterton. B grade: Featherston, v. Carterton. at Featherston; Masterton v. College, at Masterton. Dalefield Dairy Factory. The Dalefield Dairy Factory will open for the new cheese season on Friday next. Football Team, The Carterton B team to play Feath-( erston at Featherston on Saturday afternoon will be picked from the following:—Catt, Hurndell, R. McPhee, Lenihan, Martin, Aplin, Phelps, Kennedy, Rozska, Chapman, McKenzie, Ireland, Potter, Andrews, Sayer, and Pankhurst.
