CONTINUED LULL
REPORTED IN EGYPT ENEMY HARBOURS AGAIN RAIDED. AXIS AIR FORMATIONS REPELLED AT MALTA. LONDON. August 4. The lull on the battlefront in Egypt continues, except for patrol activity. Air operations are limited in the battle area. The harbours at Tobruk, Bardia and Solium have again been raided. Over Malta two enemy formations were broken up when they tried to raid the island. FIRES & EXPLOSIONS IN ENEMY COASTAL BASES. EFFECTIVE BRITISH BOMBING. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 9.50 a.m.) RUGBY, August 4. Fighter-bombers carried out two attacks on motor vehicles and tents on the Egyptian front. Bomber aircraft were over Tobruk in force on Sunday night. Explosions were seen among petrol installations in the north-west corner of the harbour and a large fire was started on the water front. Other bombers raided lighters and coastal shipping in the Bardia and Solium area. A fire, accompanied by explosions, was started at Solium. Six of our aircraft are missing, but three of the pilots are safe.
