GREYTOWN
4JOCKEY NOTES A DOUR LADIES' GAME. (“Times-Age” Special.) The ladies game, Kia Kaha v. Excelsior on Saturday was a disappointment in that owing to illness, Greytown was unable to field its regular eleven, so that the forward line in particular was not at its best. The game was dourly contested, Excelsior having the advantage in territory, but always being repelled by a stern defence except on one occasion when a relatively easy, though good shot slid past the full-back. In the second half, the local ladies staged excursions into their opponents’ territory but could not finish off the movements. The Excelsior half line performed very well on the day and were responsible for breaking up Greytown attacks. Although the game was not the best by any means that has been seen between these two teams, the display of stopping, positional work, tackling and combination generally was quite superior to the -'.verage team play today. I. Svenson performed splendidly in the back line for Kia Kaha, while the Sugrue sisters also put in their share of hard work. Next Saturday, the local ladies’ club will enter two teams in the six-a-side tournament at Masterton. The chances of both, apart from possible inroads through sickness, are comparatively good. There is every prospect of the local men’s team being considerably strengthened shortly by the inclusion of two prominent representative players. The draw for the men’s sections for next Saturday is:—At Greytown: C v. F, at 1.30 p.m.; A v. Grey town, at 3 p.m. At Carterton: Bv.D, at 1.30 p.m.; Carterton v. E. at 3 p.m Carterton are the leaders in the competition. TABLE TENNIS CLUB SOLDIERS ENTERTAINED. A return match will be played later in the month. The lady members of the club provided supper. Hockey.
