ALFREDTON
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MONTHLY MEETING. ("Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Alfredton Women’s Institute was held on Saturday afternoon, there being a very good attendance. The president, Mrs Hull, presided. The birthday cake raffle was won by Miss B. Napier. The proceeds from the sale of tickets amounted to £6 17s 3d, which will be donated to the fund for providing Christmas parcels for local soldiers overseas. A letter acknowledging parcels and money from the Patriotic Society was received from Pte. Mick Thomson, who at the time of receiving the parcel had been a prisoner of war for six weeks. It was proposed to donate 10s to the Makogai Leper Fund. The competitions which were judged by Mrs Taverner and Miss Hare resulted as follows: —Pullover, Mrs Low 1, Mrs Seymour 2. Flying jersey, Mrs Payne 1, Mrs Seymour 2, Mrs Low 3. Mittens, Mrs Low 1. Scarf, Mrs E. McLean 1. Euchre Party. A very successful euchre party was held by the Patriotic Society on Saturday night, the winners being: Ladies, Mrs Walker (the prize having been donated by Mr R. Low); men, Mr O. Walker (prize given by Mrs Clayworth); consolation, Mr E. Anderson and Mrs Taverner. A pyrex dish donated by Mr R. Kebbell for a competition realised £1 14s 6d and was Avon by Mr L. Cooper. A box of chocolates donated by Mr Fred Hull brought £1 13s 3d and was won by Mr H. Burch. The following goods were donated and auctioned by Mr H. Burch: —Eggs donated by Mrs R. Kebbell realised 3s 6d; flowers from Mrs R. Kebbell, 17s 8d; vegetables from Mr Charlie Leach, £1 5s 8d; butter from Mrs E. Seymour, 7s. The total amount taken was £8 11s 2d.
