CARTERTON

A WET MONTH RAINFALL AT CARRINGTON. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mr J. A. Roberts, of Carrington, reports that the total rainfall registered in July was 9.09 inches. There were nineteen wet days, the heaviest fall being 2.57 inches on July 13. The rainfall in July, 1941, was 4 inches. Mr . Roberts states that the rainfall in May and July, 1942, was equivalent to that usually recorded in the course of a year. >.

OBITUARY MR. F. W. ROBERTS. The death occurred at the Greytown Hospital yesterday of Mr Frederick W. Roberts, who had been in the employ of Booth and Co., timber merchants, for the past 48 years. Previous to that he worked for some years at Price’s sawmill at Dalefield. He was the only son of the late Mr and Mrs Roberts, very old residents at Dalefield, and afterwards at Belvedere. He is survived by his widow and a son and two daughters. The funeral will take place tomorrow, leaving his late residence, Kent Street, Carterton, after a service commencing at 1.30 p.m., for the Clareville Cemetery.

Personal. Mr J. Fensham, who attained his 91st birthday on Saturday, received many congratulatory messages. On Sunday a family gathering was held at the residence, there being on the tea table a birthday cake bearing the dates 18511942. Primary Producers. At a meeting held in Masterton last week Messrs A. E. Reid, A. Ross, E. T. Bliss and R. Bassett were appointed a committee to deal with farm labour and carry out essential production needs in South Wairarapa. Patriotic Dance. There was a large attendance at the weekly dance held in the State Theatre on Saturday by the Y.M.C.A. and , Citizen’s Entertainment Committee. The music was supplied by the com- . bined orchestras of Messrs T. Udy and : Frank Pool. Much appreciated extras : were played by Mr S. Hemi, Mrs Duggan and Miss V. Irwin. Mr L. M. Clark was M.C. A lucky spot dance was won by Miss Jacobson and Airman Walker. Supper was provided under the supervision of the Carterton Ladies’ Patriotic Committee.
