CARTERTON

OBITUARY MR HUGH ARMSTRONG. (“Times-Age” Special.) The death occurred suddenly at Kennedy Road, Napier, yesterday, of Mr Hugh Armstrong, who was well known in Carterton, where he was born and educated, subsequently attending Wellington College. He was employed by the Bank of New Zealand from 1912 until 1915, when he left to take part with the N.Z.E.F. in the Great War. He returned to New Zealand and in 1919 joined the staff of the Carterton branch of the Bank of New Zealand. He was transferred to Masterton, then to the King Country, and latterly had been with the bank at Napier. He was the fourth son of the late Mr and Mrs Adam Armstrong, who were among the pioneer settlers of Carterton. He was. in his youth a well known footballer and played for Carterton for many years. He was a Wairarapa and Wanganui- representative player. He is survived by a widow, the only daughter of the late Mr and Mrs E. Eagle, and a son Rendle Hugh. He also leaves three brothers and three sisters. The brothers are Messrs Percy and Irvine (Masterton), and Loftus (Dannevirke), and the daughters, Mrs Francis (Wellington), Mrs Dampney (Taikatahuna), and Miss Rita Armstrong (Wellington). The funeral will leave St. Mark’s Church, Carterton, on Monday, after a service commencing at 1 o’clock for the Clareville Cemetery. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs Percy Reid, Carterton, have been advised that their son, Sapper O. Reid, is fit and well. Corporal J. Harp, who has been overseas, has' returned to Carterton on leave. Bobby Calves. Bobby calves will be collected on Monday at Mauriceville, Kaituna, Matahiwi, Carrington and West Taratahi, and on Tuesday at Te Ore Ore, Te Whiti, Gladstone, Parkvale, East Taratahi and South of Carterton.
