R.A.F. DAV & NIGHT OPERATIONS NINE ENEMY RAIDERS DESTROYED DIRECT HITS ON GERMAN SUPPLY SHIPS. OFF THE FRISIAN ISLANDS. LONDON, July 31. R.A.F. bombers were over Northern France this afternoon, escorted by Spitfires. Bombs were dropped on an aerodrome at Abbeville. Many fights with enemy fighters took place. Eleven German planes were destroyed. Eight British fighters are missing. This operation followed on extensive raid by Coastal Command planes on German shipping off the Frisian Islands last night. Heavy anti-aircraft fire made it difficult to see the results of the bombing, but at least two supply ships received direct hits. Other aircraft attacked a factory in Holland, flying as low as 500 feet to drop their bombs. A patrol of night fighters shot up trains and goods yards in Northern France. A German bomber returning from Britain was shot down. Eight other enemy bombers were destroyed in raids over Britain last night. The raids were widespread and included an attack on an area in the West Midlands. Some people were killed. London’s (anti-a'ircraft guns blazed into action for the third time this week. SUNDERLAND AIRCRAFT ATTACKED IN BAY OF BISCAY. ENEMY PLANE DESTROYED & ANOTHER DAMAGED. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.5 a.m.) RUGBY, July 31. The Air Ministry states; “A SunderIgnd aircraft was attacked by three float-planes in the Bay of Biscay last evening. One of the attackers was destroyed and another was badly damaged. “The Fighter Command last night made intruder patrols in occupied territory. A factory in Holland was bombed from a low level and many hits were seen. Railway targets in Occupied France were also attacked. One enemy aircraft was destroyed during one of these operations. It is now known that three enemy aircraft were destroyed by our bombers during Wednesday night’s raid on Saarbrucken.”
