MESSAGE FROM DOMINIONS SECRETARY. BRITISH GOVERNMENT’S REGRET. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The following cable message has been received by the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, from the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs (Mr C. R. Attlee): — “His Majesty’s Government in Great Britain have learned with great regret of the death of Sir James Allen. Over a long period of years he rendered distinguished public service to New Zealand and the Empire both at home, as High Commissioner in this . country, and as New Zealand’s sentative at many international conferences. As Minister of Defence he was responsible for the dispatch of the First New. Zealand Expeditionary Force in 1914. His personality and work will long be remembered here. Please convey to his family my sympathy with them in their loss.”
