EUCHRE AND DANCE BACHELORS AND SPINSTERS GATHERING. ("Times-Age” Special.) There was a large attendance at the euchre party and dance sponsored by the bachelors and spinsters of the district on Saturday evening. Mrs Murphy was the winner of the ladies’ section at euchre with Mrs Carter second. The men’s prizes were won by Mr K. Mohio, Mr Nones being second. Other prizes were Avon by Mr J. Priest (dinner), Mr Tot Burling (turkey) and Miss E. Tilson (ham). Mr S. Mclntosh was M.C. and Mr D. Matenga supplied the dance music, extras being played by Miss I. Te Whaiti and Mr R. McDonald. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MONTHLY MEETING. Miss Scrimegour presided over a fair attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute. The only competition held was won by Mrs Lovegrove. Personal Items. Mrs Murphy, of Wanganui, is the guest of Mrs Taurau. Mr and Mrs Peter Macdonald Junr., Levin, are* staying with Mr and Mrs Macdonald, Yerongo. Miss M. Hutana, who had been on a short visit to her mother, has returned to Waipukurau. Mr Rangi Mitchell, Pahiatua, was a visitor to Pirinoa at the weekend. Mr and Mrs J. Priest have returned from a visit to Pahiatua. Mr E. Taurau, who had been on a visit to Dannevirke, has returned home. Mrs Enoka and family, Pukio, have taken up their residence at Pirinoa for a few months. Mr and Mrs Trevor Hume were visitors to Masterton over the weekend. Main Highway Negotiable.

The main highway at Tuhitarata on the Featherston-Lake Ferry Road is now negotiable by trucks and large cars. Owners of smaller types of motor vehicle are, however, advised not to attempt to negotiate the road until towards the end of the week when it is hoped the water will have subsided, sufficiently to enable all traffic to pass through without danger.
