A. & P. ASSOCIATION

55TH ANNUAL REPORT SUCCESSFUL RAM FAIR. SUPPORT OF MEMBERS , APPRECIATED. The fifty-fifth annual show was abandoned owing to war conditions, . states the annual report of the Masterton A, and P. Association. The report states, inter alia, that cer- . tain expenditure was entailed in printing and posting the schedules, but with donations received and receipts from advertisements in the schedule, there was sufficient to pay for this, and also leave a profit of £33 18s sd. Last year the profit on the show was £l9l 4s 4d. Negotiations are now proceeding regarding the rental to be paid- for the lease of the Showgrounds. Thanks are expressed for allowing the association to use the selling ring for the Ram Fair. The ram fair was very successful, and shows a profit of £207 12s Bd, compared with £164 17s 8d last year. An innovation this year was the inspecting of all flock rams by inspectors from the breed societies, and although vendors were aware of this, the entries showed an increase of 276 on last year. The inspectors condemned 22 Romney and 9 Southdown rams. It was generally agreed that this was a move in the right direction. The Farm Account showed a profit for the year of £162 17s sd, all the slock having been sold. Subscriptions collected amounted to £442, compared with £790 2s 6'd last year when the show was held. The association thanks all members who paid their subscriptions as usual, and this enabled the association to carry on in the meantime. Had this generous response not been made, the loss of £245 would have been over £6OO. The association intends keeping all members on the roll for the time being, and ample notice will be given to members of any intention to alter this arrangement. Certain overhead expenses which cannot be foreseen may arise, and the association should be grateful to members if they could pay their subscriptions as usual. The total membership is 912, compared with 968 last year. The losses during the year were as follows: —By death 16, by resignation 17, and the names of 23 were struck off the roll as having gone and left no address. Sixty members are either in camp or serving overseas. The golf links were only open for part of the year, and the profit is £l4 10s 6d, compared with £3O 16s last year. Maintneance cost £42 13s 7d for about six months, against £B3 14s 4d last year. After writing off £166 4s 2d as depreciation, there is a loss for the vear of £245 13s 3d. The mortgage still stands at £1250. During the year the mortgagee (Miss O. M. McLaren) offered to reduce the rate of interest to 4 per cent. This offer was accepted with thanks, and the mortgage renewed on this basis. The caretaker, Mr W. Jacobson, who went overseas on guard duties, has returned in ill health, and has found it necessary to undergo an operation. The association wishes him a speedy recovery to good health. The committee records with regret the deaths of the following members: —Mrs M. A. Carpenter, Messrs A. J. Churchouse, H. Burrell, F. S. Goldingham, F. L. Williams, R. Judd (life member), H. P. Harrison, B. R. Rayner, H. H. Dawson, H. Spooner, John McLeod (life member), R. R. Burling (life member), John Cooper (on active service), J. P. Tredray (on active service), H. George (on active service), J. E. Falloon (on active service). In each case suitable refereii&e has been made in the records of the association, and a letter of sympathy forwarded to their relatives.

During the year the following have made the supreme sacrifice in the defence of the Empire: —John Cooper, J. E. Falloon, H. George and J. P. Tredray. The following are serving overseas:—J. L. T. Barton, R. W. Berry, R. A. Bunny, H. O. Bunny, Ralph Bunny, R, F. Buick, O. C. Cardno, C. C. Cook, G. Cooper, L. K. Cooper, J. M. Coutts, J K. Donald, R M. Falloon, I. Gordon, I. A. Hart, A. Hart, J. This list may not be complete, and the association would be grateful if friends and relatives would advise of any addition oi alterations. The following are not seeking re-election on the committee: — Messrs Roy Shaw, C. J. Mackay and S. H. Cotter. The association thanks them for their past services. Thanks are due to all who assisted during the year, and to the Press for publicity given at all times. The report is signed on behalf of the committee, by Mr R. E. Gordon Lee, president.
