OBITUARY
MR T. W. DOw iHWAITE. The death occurred in the Greytown Hospital on Saturday of Mr Thomas Wilkinson Dowthwaite, of York Street, Masterton, at the age of 86 years. Until a fortnight ago, he had been a patient in the Masterton Hospital for the past two years. The late Mr Dowthwaite, who was born at Slyme, North Lincolnshire, went to Canada when he was a youth and on returning later to. England he married. He then proceeded to Queensland, where he followed the teaching profession. Over 40 years ago he came to New Zealand and took up farming pursuits. When the late Mr W. F. Massey was first elected to Parliament, Mr Dowthwaite was working for him at Pukekohe. Coming to the Wairarapa about 35 years ago, Mr Dowthwaite had since worked on farms in various parts of the district and for a number of years he had a farm property at Carrington. He served in the South African War. His wife predeceased him 12 years ago and he is survived by one daughter, Mrs G. W. Hallam, York Street. The funeral will take place tomorrow, leaving the Chapel of Hyde’s Funeral Service Ltd., following a service at 2 p.m. for the Masterton Cemetery. MISS E. M. BRADFORD. The death occurred on Saturday night of Miss Elsie Mary Bradford, daughter of Mrs K. and the late Mr A. E. Bradford, of Westbush Road, Masterton. The late Miss Bradford, who was 24 years of age had been an invalid for the last 12 years, following an attack of infantile paralysis. The funeral took place this afternoon.
