FIGURES OF EXPANSION IN U.S.A. GIVEN BY MR D. NELSON. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) WASHINGTON, July 25. The output of planes, tanks, ships, guns and ammunition has trebled since November, according to a statement by the War Production Chief, Mr Donald Nelson, who disclosed that in June, 1939, the total output of military and commercial planes was 224, compared with 602 in June, 1940, and 1476 in June, 1941, while it reached 4000 in May, 194'2. He added that the emphasis was now placed on heavy bombers. . The present output of artillery and anti-tank guns was 2000 a month. Medium tanks had been mass-produced for many months, the output of tanks in May being more than 1500. Sixty-six large merchantmen were delivered in June, thus raising the six months’ total to 228, compared . with 103 last year. The total deadweight tons delivered in the first six months was 2,554,000. Mr Nelson said that up to June 30, 33,000 million dollars had been paid for goods delivered and services rendered. At present the nation was paying for the war 159,000,000 dollars a day and spending 36 per cent of the national income on the war.
