UNEASY FINLAND

APPEAL TO UNITED STATES. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) NEW YORK, July 25. The Government has approved of a feeler from Finland hinting strongly that the United States ought to help to release Finland from her predicament as an ally of Germany and possible sacrifice to a victorious Russia, which was contained in a short wave broadcast from Helsinki, recorded here. The broadcast cited widespread editorial comment in Finland implying approval by the Press and public of the ideas expressed. It is regarded as most significant. The programme was beamed straight to the United States by directional antennae. The broadcast asserted that if the United States gives Finland more exact information concerning its plans for the protection of small democracies like Finland from a Bolshevik-dictated peace “the Finns would gain greater confidence.” The broadcast emphasised that in the past six months the Finnish armies had been only endeavouring to hold their lines against Russia and were not making aggressive moves.
