OTHER PEOPLE’S IDEAS

ST. MATTHEW’S OR CHARITY (To the Editor.) Sir, —Some months ago the Bishop of Wellington was in Auckland, and he spoke in a very scathing manner of commercial premises being built of brick and stone, while the House cf God was of wood. Now in Masterton we have a number of citizens who want to rebuild St. Matthew’s, a very worthy object, and no doubt they will have their names inscribed on a corner-stone for future generations to look upon. I am afraid that the same corner-stone won’t mention that we are fighting a life and death war, or) that thousands are dying through lack l of food and money. Surely God does not need these wonderful buildings, or ordinary mortals dressed in scarlet, purple and golden robes in order to' pass on His teachings.—l am, etc., ) W. A. WARDELL. I
