On Saturday the Governor-General visited the Collegiate School, Wanganui. Yesterday he attended divine service at the chapel of the Collegiate School. Subsequently he inspected the Wanganui Air Training Corps. Mr C. A. Pickering, Miriam Street, Masterton, has received word that his brother, Pte. Jack Pickering, is reported missing. Mr and Mrs J. R. Carswell, Matahiwi, have received word that their son, Gunner Ken Carswell, has been wounded in action. Advice has been received that Private William (Huriwhenua) Te Tau, youngest son of Mr and Mrs R. Te Tau, is reported missing. Mr W. T. Ikin, Wellington, general manager for New Zealand for the Australian Mutual Provident Society, accompanied by Mr J. Francis, of Wellington, was a visitor to Masterton on Friday. Sir Alexander Godley, who commanded the New Zealand Expeditionary Force in the opening years of the 1914-18 war, has been been elected chairman of the Royal Empire Society, according to a Press Association message from London. Second Lieutenant A. I. Cottrell, who is reported missing in the Middle East fighting, represented Canterbury at Rugby on many occasions and New Zealand for four years, lie visited Australia with the All Blacks, and played in all four Tests against the visiting British team in 1930. Lieut. D. A. R. Moloney, who is also missing, represented Otago, Wellington, the Maqawatu and Minor Associations at cricket. He was in the last New Zealand team to visit England. He was a good all-rounder and had some fine batting performances to his credit in Plunkct Shield and other representative matches. The death has occurred of Mr W. Robertson, 1.5.0., late Under-Secretary for Lands, aged 67. Mr Robertson joined the Lands and Survey Department in 1892, and was attached to the Dunedin, Napier, Hokitika and Invercargill offices. In 1930 he was appointed to the head office, and in 1917 was transferred to Auckland. Upon the constitution of the North Auckland Land District in 1919, he was selected to organise the new office for that district and appointed departmental inspector. He was appointed assistant under-secretary in 1925, and in 1931 succeeded Mr J. B. Thompson, C.8.E., as Under-Secretary for Lands. Mr Robertson retired in 1939.
