FEATHERSTON

PUBLIC BEQUESTS UNDER WILL OF LATE MR W. J. MURPHY. (“Times-Age” Special.) Under the will of the late Mr William John Murphy who died at Featherston on May 25, 1942, the Public Trustee is appointed executor and trustee. The will provides for the following public gifts-y-legacies of £25 each to the Anglican Church, Volunteer Fire Brigade, and Literary Institute, all of Featherston, for the general purposes thereof. ST. JAMES’S DAY ANNUAL CELEBRATION. The annual celebration of St. James’s Day took place in Featherston yesterday when the day scholars of Chilton St. James’s School, Lower Hutt, visited the boarding school which has lately been established in Featherston. A service was held in St. John’s Church in the morning at which the Rev. J. R. Higgs officiated. Special music, composed by a member of the staff for these occasions, was rendered by the girls, Mrs K. H. Allen being the organist. The church was filled with pupils, parents and friends. At the conclusion of the service the visitors were entertained at luncheon at Chilton St. James’s School following the ceremony of saluting the banner. Personal Items. Mrs Sullivan, Kahutara Road, who has been visiting her daughter at Levin, has returned. Miss Barbara Beatlie has returned to Pahautea after having visited Petone. The Rev. J. C. W. Mutter, of Opunake, recently paid a brief visit to his parents, Mr and Mrs J. Mutter, Hickson Street. Trevor Ploughton, a pupil at the primary school, had the misfortune to break an arm while playing at the school on Thursday. COSY THEATRE “THE LITTLE FOXES.” Telling the dramatic story of a woman who stoops to virtual murder, as well as blackmail, in her frantic struggle for riches, “The Little Foxes,” which will be shown tonight, presents an arresting theme to film-goers. Bette Davis -is starred in the role of tins woman. Teresa Wright, a recent “discovery.” and Richard Carlson share the romantic lion- \ ours, with Patricia Collinge, Dan Duryea, Charles Dingle and Carl Benton Reid, a quartette of the featured cast in the original Broadway production, repeating their roles in the film version. Herbert Marshall is also seen in a strong role.
