AUSTRALIAN KINDNESS

TO NEW ZEALAND SOLDIERS GRATITUDE EXPRESSED BY MR FRASER. VISIT TO ANZAC BUFFET. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.40 p.m.) SYDNEY. This Day. The deep gratitude of the people of New Zealand for the wonderful hospitality that has been extended by Australians to New Zealand soldiers was expressed by the New Zealand Prime Minister (Mr Fraser) after he had visited the Anzac Buffet, in Hyde Park, tonight, and seen hundreds of soldiers, sailors and airmen from almost every British Dominion having an evening meal. In addition to members of the Australian forces, there were sailors and soldiers from New Zealand, soldiers from England and sailors from India gathered round the table, and Mr Fraser thought it was marvellous that such a centre of hospitality should exist and that meals should be served free to the men. It is most appropriate that the buffet is today staffed by members of a New Zealand auxiliary war unit and it pleased Mr Fraser greatly to know that New Zealanders in Sydney, as well as looking after the welfare of visiting New Zealand soldiers, also have assisted organisations caring for the men of the Australian forces. Mi’ Fraser was cheered by the men on his arrival and he moved round the tables shaking hands and chatting briefly with the men. Mr Fraser also expressed keen interest in and appreciation of the work that New Zealand women were doing. He was interested to learn that many hundreds of New Zealand soldiers had enjoyed hospitality at the buffet and that the wireless equipment there was presented by the New Zealand Patriotic Funds Board, in recognition of the hospitality extended to New Zealand soldiers.

Mr Fraser earlier in the day conferred with members of the New South Wales Government. He goes to Melbourne on Sunday and then to Canberra, for a meeting of the Australian War Council, before returning to Sydney.
