< The Hon. W. A. Bodkin, Minister of Civil Defence, will visit Wanganui at the weekend. Mrs T. R. Barrer, Renal! Street, Masterton, has returned from a visit to Wellington. Mrs Potten, who has been visiting her sister, Mrs E. J. Keffer, Lansdowne, has returned to Nelson. Mrs H. E. Haggitt, Mataikona, is staying with her sister, 'Mrs W. L. Hunter, Coradine Street, Masterton. Mr H. E. Duckett, of Johnston Street. Masterton, has received official information that his son, Private William Rex Duckett, is reported missing. Mr and Mrs Leslie E. Gaskin, of Cambridge Terrace, Masterton, have been notified that their eldest son, Sapper Raymond E. Gaskin, is reported wounded and missing. Mr John Lachlan McGillivray Watson, who died in Invercargill recently, aged 79, was the oldest practising solicitor in Southland. He had lived in Invercargill all his life. Advice has been received in Masterton that Signalman A. C. (“Jim”) Gunther, who was previously announced as having been wounded, is now reported ill. Advice has been received by Mr and Mrs W. Aitken, Church Street, Masterton, that their son, Captain W. Aitken, is reported missing. Captain Aitken was formerly a well-known Wairarapa and Forty Mile Bush representative footballer. While residing in Masterton he played for the Old Boys’ seniors. The funeral of the late Mr H. H. Scott took place in Carterton this morning. ‘ The service at St. Mary’s Church and that at the Clareville Cemetery were conducted by the Rev. Father Devlin. Among many floral tributes was a wreath from Messrs J. Graham and Co., Ltd., Masterton. The pall-bearers were Messrs F., L. P., C. J. R„ H. G., and A. Scott and R. J. Shackleton.
