RESTORING THE TOWN GOOD PROGRESS BEING MADE. * (“Times-Age” Special.) Good progress is being made with restoring Carterton to pre-earthquake conditions, and the replacing of chimneys is being carried out as expeditiously as possible. The erection of premises in the business area in future will doubtless be governed by their earthquake-resisting qualities. Business is back to normal and residents now look upon the earthquake as an outstanding incident in their lives and which they hope will never again be experienced by them. Football. A game that is creating considerable interest will be played on the Carterton Showgrounds tomorrow, when the North and South Army teams will meet. In the ranks of both fifteens are some of the best known players in the Dominion. It should be a fast and interesting match. The players are reported to be in splendid foim. The kick-off will be at 2.45 p.m. and the gross takings will be devoted to the Carterton and district patriotic fund. The Carterton and Grey town secondary school football teams played a game on the Carrington Park yesterday, when the former won by 40 points to nil. Mr M. Hurley was the referee. Church Service. A Church of England service will be held at Waihakeke on Sunday at 2 o’clock. Personal Items. , Mr and Mrs W. Franks, of Palmerston North, were visitors to Carterton on Wednesday. Mr W. Hadley, who has been an inmate of the Croydo'n Hospital for some months past, has returned to his home in Belvedere Street. Patriotic Dance. In the Belvedere schoolroom tonight a patriotic dance will be. held. The committee has made special arrangements for the enjoyment of patrons. Hockey.
