STILL FIGHTING
— REMNANTS OF AMERICAN FORCES IN PARTS OF PHILIPPINE ISLANDS. COMPLAINTS IN JAPANESE BROADCAST. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.17 a.m.) RUGBY, July 23. A Washington message says an official of the War Information Department states that remnants of the United States forces in the Philippines are carrying on guerilla warfare against the Japanese, according to Japanese broadcasts, which also said island residents were committing arson, murder and robbery. These broadcasts said the guerilla bands operated in isolated units in the jungles of Luzon, Mindanao and other islands. Filipino prisoners of war are being held as hostages until the population shows a readiness to collaborate.
