LANSDOWNE SCHOOL
ARRANGEMENTS FOR CLASSES. SPECIAL PROJECTS PLANNED. Owing to the Lansdowne School having been taken over as a temporary hospital, the following procedure will be adopted in connection with the work of the pupils during the remainder of the present term which ends on Friday, August 21. The pupils of the various classes will attend at the shelter shed behind the old infant school, building, near the entrance to the hospital, commencing from Monday next, July 27. The following timetable has been arranged:— Forms 1 and 2, 9.30 a.m.; Stds. 3 and. 4, 10 a.m.; Stds. 1 and 2, 11 a.m.; infants, 1.30 p.m. The teachers will be in attendance daily from 9 a.m. to correct work and to set new work. In addition to the ordinary routine work, projects in connection with art, history, geography, nature study, home gardening, local industries, sewing, handwork, net making, civic activities, law court procedure and physical education will be introduced. The success of these plans depends largely on the whole-hearted co-opera-tion of the parents, and those guiding the work, trust, that parents will see that the work set, is conscientiously carried out by the pupils. If the weather remains fine, the pupils will be in charge of their teachers for the greater part of the day. This is purely a temporary scheme, based on the assurance given by the hospital authorities that, providing the health of the troops improves during the next seven weeks, the school buildings will be handed over for the opening of the new term on Monday, September 7. The school was evacuated by the children on Tuesday afternoon. Owing to earthquake damage, no suitable building to accommodate the children, can be found.
