CARTERTON

OBITUARY MR JOSEPH PAASKE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The death occurred in Auckland of Mr Joe Paaske, who for many years lived in Carterton where he went to school. A carpenter by trade he was an employee of Messrs Knutson and Jamieson for a considerable period. He was a returned soldier and saw considerable service in the last war. His son, Mr-Percy Paaske, is serving with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force overseas. Mrs Paaske died some years ago. He was 54 years of age, and had been a member of the Totara Lodge of Druids since 1920. Hockey. The Carterton junior team to play Sincerity on Saturday will be: —V. Merwood, A, Williams, R. Hopkins, N. Williams, B. Berry, P. Deller, D. George, P. Jensen, B. Parker, B. Matson, and L. Hopkins. Players who are unable to play are asked to ring telephone No. 280 M or 265 before midday on Saturday. Personal Items. The funeral of the late Mr Jimmieson took place yesterday afternoon. An impressive service was conducted by the Rev. W. F. Stent at St. Mark’s Anglican Church, where the pall-bear-ers were Messrs A. W. McKenzie (Carterton), E. S. Ball (Levin), J. Jimmieson (Ahititi, Mokau), J. Court (Waihakeke), S. Galion (Dalefield), and J. Loader (Taueru). Many beautiful floral wreaths were sent testifying to the high esteem in which deceased was held. At the cemetery, the pallbearers were Messrs K.. Reid, B. Archer, V. Hodder, W. O. Geange (members of the Druids’ Lodge), and J. W. Smith and R. Foss. Mr Stent conducted the service at the graveside, and P.A. Bro. W. Fryer that of the Druids’ Lodge. Besides his widow and family, the late Mr Jimmieson is survived by three sisters, Mrs Loader (Taueru), -Mrs Gough (Palmerston North), and Mrs E. S. Ball (Levin). Mrs A. E. Jimmieson, of Garrison Street, is his stepmother. There was a large assemblage at the funeral of the late Mr Robert Franks which took place yesterday, leaving the residence of Mr C. J. Churchouse, Garrison Street, Carterton. At the house and graveside the services were conducted by the Rev. W. J. Couling. The Odd Fellows’ service was carried out by P.G. Bro. G. S. Bruce. The pall-'' bearers were Messrs Lloyd Jensen, Joseph Jensen, Charles Jensen, Charles Tinsley, C. J. Churchouse' and W. B. Campin. Many beautiful wreaths were forwarded by relatives and friends. Mr and Mrs Bennett accompanied by Mrs Middlemiss (Mrs Bennett’s mother) left Carterton yesterday for Palmerston North. Mr Bennett, who has been on the railway staff for a considerable period, has been transferred to Palmerston North. Mr H. J. McKenzie, chairman of the Carterton District High School, who was yesterday returned as a member of the Wellington Education Board, defeating Colonel McDonald, has received many congratulatory messages in connection therewith.
