SHORTAGE OF TEACHERS
POSITION AT WAIRARAPA COLLEGE. REQUEST FOR RELEASE FROM CAMP. The shortage of teachers was a matter which again came before the Wairarapa College Board of Governors at its last meeting. The resignation of Miss I. M. Kirk was accepted with regret. Miss Kirk is leaving to take up an appointment in the Auckland district. In view of the fact that no applications had been received to fill the vacancy caused by Miss Kirk’s resignation, the board decided to apply to the Armed Forces Appeal Board for the release of Lieutenant J. E. Tier, so that he could recommence teaching duties at the College. A. circular letter from the Auckland Grammar School directed the Government’s attention to the critical situation which had developed in secondary schools as the result of the withdrawal of teachers for military service. The board agreed to support the views expressed in the circular.
REQUEST REFUSED. The Armed Forces Appeal Board, at a sitting yesterday, dismissed the application by the Wairarapa College Board of Governors for the release of Lieutenant Tier.
