Advices received at Montevideo, from informed Argentine sources, indicate, says the Associated Press of American that the Argentine Government has refused to convoy its own merchant ships, as suggested by Washington. The Foreign Minister, Dr. E. Ruiz Guinazu, told the Chamber of Deputies that Argentina would not join the herd of American republics, which were being led by the United States to make war on the Axis. Dr. Guinazu’s statement was made in the course of a speech answering a Socialist Deputy, Senor Nicolaas Repetto, who demanded, in view of the German submarine sinking of the Argentine ship Rio Tercero, a severance of relations with the Axis, in accordance with the recommendations of the Foreign Ministers’ conference at Rio de Janeiro last January.
