CARTERTON
SALVATION ARMY TRAINING CADETS CONCERT. (“Times-Age” Special.) On Saturday evening the Training College Cadets delighted a gathering in the Salvation Army Hall, Carterton, with a varied programme. A good number of people had braved the gale which raged and were more than recompensed for their trouble. The Cadets, in sparkling items and games, revealed their talent and vivacity. Supporting items were rendered by Mr. Arty Keay and Mrs Walker and the Y.P. Legion girls. Early on Sunday morning the Cadets, under the direction of the Corps Officer, Captain Waite, commenced a series of outdoor engagements and many residents expressed their appreciation in connection therewith. The morning holiness meeting was conducted by the Women’s Training Officer, Captain Chalmers, who was ably supported by the Cadets. Following further open-air meetings in the afternoon, the Cadets later led a “free and easy” meeting in the Hall. The timbrel playing, the marching, bright singing, and novel methods were much appreciated by the congregation, who were warm in their applause. The Cadets also gave interesting glimpses of Training College life. At the meeting at night the Cadets gave an excellent series of gospel talks and evangelistic songs. The final appeal by Captain Chalmers was a stirring one. • The singing, speaking, and leadership of Captain Chalmers and the Cadets, were of a high order throughout the day. PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE ENJOYABLE DANCE. The Patriotic Committee’s dance on Saturday night was a decided success, i a most enjoyable time being spent by those present. The music was supplied by the combined Udy-Blue River orchestra. Extras were played by Messrs Lewis, O’Dowd and V. Partner, and some soldiers. A spot waltz was won by Miss Corlet and Driver Hodson. Mr P. L. Beere was M.C. The supper arrangements were under the supervision of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. Dance at Belvedere, On Friday evening a dance will be, held at Belvedere, the proceeds from which will be devoted to patriotic funds. Mrs Rogers will supply the music.
