LITTLE DAMAGE DONE

The Masterton Fire Brigade received two calls on Saturday night, the -first at 5.55 o’clock to a rubbish fire and the second, at 10.40 o’clock, to an outbreak in a detached washhouse at No. 44 South Road. In the latter instance two engines and 14 men answered the call. The fire was quickly brought under control. The building contained a washhouse, woodshed and conveniences. The woodshed portion was severely damaged by fire. There was an insurance of £5O on the building. The property is owned by Mr Stanley Benge, Makora Road, and is occupied by Mr Vernon Stear. The rubbish fire, which was at the rear of the F.C.D. Co’s, premises, Chapel Street, was quickly extinguished.
