IMPORTANT GAINS
MADE BY THE CHINESE BATTLES FOR COASTAL RAILWAY. JAPANESE ROUTED AT SOME POINTS. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.55 a.m.) CHUNGKING, July 19. A communique states that the Chinese, after capturing Wenchow, recaptured Joian, 13 miles southward. Furthermore they have recaptured Hengfeng and lyang, on the ChekiangKiangsi Railway. A correspondent of the United Press of America states that successful Chinese counter-attacks in Kiangsi Province have inflicted heavy casualties on the Japanese. Many of the enemy fled to the sea, while others, surrounded near Wenchow, are faced with annihilation. . Military authorities point out that the recapture of lyang has knocked- out Japanese communications northward, thereby rendering the ChekiangKiangsi Railway virtually useless to the Japanese. _______
