EKETAHUNA
LATE REV. G. E. WILLIAMS IMPRESSIVE SERVICE. \ (“Times-Age" Special.) St. Cuthbert’s Anglican Church, Eketahuna, was filled on Thursday by a large and representative congregation in connection with the funeral of the Rev. G. E. Williams, Vicar of Eketahuna. A short but impressive service was conducted by Archdeacon Young (Wanganui). The Rev. Mr Britton, Pahiatua, read the lesson. The 23rd Psalm was recited and the late Mr Williams’s favourite hymns, “Rock of Ages,” “Abide With Me,” and “For Ever With the Lord,” were sung. The large cortege then proceeded to the Pahiatua Cemetery where the interment took place. The service at-the graveside was conducted by Archdeacon Young. Those present at the graveside included visiting Anglican clergy, and the Revs. Hopper (Eketahuna), Moore (Pahiatua), Coombes (Pahiatua Presbyterian Church), a representative of the Salvation Army, members of the vestry of the Pahiatua and Eketahuna Anglican churches and members of the Scout troop, Eketahuna. The pall-bearers at Eketahuna were Messrs Christie, Marenzi, Greathead, V. M. Anderson, Rogers and Hart, and at Pahiatua, Messrs Mason, Hamilton, Sturton, Christie, Hart and Anderson. Among others wreaths were forwarded by the Pahiatua Ministers Association, the Rev. and Mrs Button, Pahiatua, the Alfredton parishoners, the parishoners of St. Colombus Church, Mangamohoe, St. Cuthbert’s Vestry, Eketahuna, parishioners of St. Mary the Virgin Church, Nireaha, the Bible Class and Sunday School, Mothers’ Union, Ladies’ Guild, Eketahuna, Scout Troop and Cub Pack, and the Methodist Church, Eketahuna. Telegrams of sympathy were received from Bishops Holland (Wellington) and Cherrington (Hamilton).
