CARTERTON
POST OFFICE TOWER CLOCK BEING REMOVED. (“Times-Age” Special.) Good progress is being made with pulling down the Carterton Post Office tower and the bells of the town clock are now being removed. — RESIDENTS INJURED SENT TO HOSPITAL. Two Carterton district residents were admitted to Masterton Hospital yesterday, both suffering from back injuries. John Bambry, 79, of Dalefield, was rolled on by a horse and John Wilson, 60, of 22 Rhodes Street, Carterton. fell off a roof while helping to rebuild a chimney. The condition of both this morning was reported to be as well as could be expected. Red Cross Dance, On Wednesday next members of the Carterton Red Cross Transport Unit will hold a dance in the State Theatre to raise funds for normal activities. The ladies of the unit are making elaborate preparations for the. gathering. Mrs Ashton’s Orchestra will provide the music. Personal Items. Mr Jamieson, of Carterton, who was taken suddenly ill a few days ago, has entered hospital for treatment. Miss J. A. Cole, Glen Isla, wlm spent a month’s holiday in Hastings and other parts of Hawke’s Bay, has returned home. The funeral of the late Mrs Shirley took place at the Clareville Cemetery yesterday afternoon. The services at the graveside were conducted by the Rev. J. A. Daglish. The pall bearers were Messrs Geo. Edwards (Auckland), A. C. Caseley (Martinborough), A. R. Clark (Carterton), J. P. Petersen, C. Skipage and E. Dyer. Many beautiful wreaths were received testifying to the high esteem in which the late Mrs Shirley was held.
