U-BOAT BASES
ATTACKED BY BRITISH BOMBERS DAMAGE DONE AT LUBECK. DIRECT HITS ON YARDS & SLIPWAYS. LONDON, July 17. Stirling bombers last night attacked two centres of U-boat production in Germany, the Baltic ports of Lubeck and Flensburg. Lubeck was last bombed at the encl of March, when the attack was exceptionally heavy and great damage was done. Flensburg was bombed last Saturday. The British planes at Lubeck came down out of the clouds right over the submarine slipways. Some came as low as 500 feet before releasing their bombs. Nine direct hits were seen on the yards and slipways. Two British planes did not return from last evening’s raids. FIRST FOR A YEAR ATTACK BY SINGLE RAIDER ON LONDON. SLIGHT DAMAGE AND NO CASUALTIES. LONDON, July 17. London had its first air raid alert for three months when a German plane dropped bombs at a place in Greater London. There were no casualties and only slight damage. It is just a year since bombs were dropped in the London area. Earlier today enemy fighters dropped bombs on the south-west coast of England. British fighters brought down an enemy fighter off the south coast this morning.
