PERSONAL ITEMS (“Times-Age” Special.) Miss Belle Currie is spending a holiday at Christchurch. Miss Ngaire Watson is visiting Napier. ' Mrs Tulbury is the guest of relatives at Levin. Mrs F. Alexanda and her sister, Miss J. Tutbury are spending a holiday at Auckland. Mr R. J. Ruane has received notice of his transfer to the telephone exchange at Masterton, and will leave for the latter place on Monday. Miss Phil Hatton, of the Wellington postal staff, has been transferred to Featherston. I United Wartime Service. The Rev. J. R. Higgs will be the speaker at the united wartime service to be held in the Cosy Theatre on Sunday evening. A hearty _ invitation is extended to local residents to attend the service. Mail Car Held Up. On Wednesday when attempting to cross the Ruamahanga River Bridge on the trip from Lake Ferry to Featherston, thp mailman, Mr Seaward, found that he was unable to proceed as the bank had given way. He tried to back his car but got into difficulties and had subsequently to transfer the mails to a dray, leaving the car on the bridge. He was able to get to Featherston via Martinborough.
COSY THEATRE “WASHINGTON MELODRAMA.” Tonight’s programme will be headed by “Washington Melodrama.” Ann Rutnerford and Frank Morgan appear in Washington Melodrama,” blackmail and murdei mystery laid amid today’s whirl of national events in Washington. The story deals with the editor of a sensational tabloid newspaper, who turns detective to extricate Morgan, enacting a millionaire philanthropist, from a sinister plot. Miss Rutherford plays the millionaire’s daughter who aids in the amateur detective work. “Bullets for O’Hara, the associate picture, is an exciting crime film with an unusual plot. Roger Fryor and Joan Perry are featured in the starring roles with Anthony Quinn and Maris V.Tixon in the supporting cast. There will also be shown episode 14 of “Fu Manchu.’
