RESCUE LAUNCHES

ATTACKED BY ENEMY PLANES OFF THE FRENCH COAST. SOME LOSSES ON BOTH SIDES. LONDON, July 16. .British launches on rescue work within a few miles of the French coast were attacked by German planes. While Spitfires were about the German planes were not to be seen but as soon as the Spitfires disappeared enemy machines came out in pairs and swooped on to the launches. The Spitfires were not far away and shot down at least three German planes and damaged others. One British launch and two fighters were lost. Two men in the launch were killed, but the pilots whom they had set out to rescue were landed safely on the British coast.
