SLIPS ON RAILWAY

NORTHERN SECTION STILL BLOCKED. HOPES OF CLEARING LINE TODAY. The railway line between Masterton and Pahiatua is still closed to traffic, though it was hoped to have the line cleared early this morning. The main trouble is a bank near the Mangamahoe tunnel. This bank was badly shaken in the earthquake and with the continued wet weather, moisture is moving it out, causing a series of slips on to the line. Pending the restoration of communication, steam and rail-car services are being maintained between Masterton and Wellington.
