LEAGUE OF MOTHERS

MEETING IN MASTERTON. AN INTERESTING ADDRESS. The monthly meeting of the League of Mothers was held in the Methodist Hall yesterday afternoon. The president, Mrs L. B. Maunsell, expressed pleasure at such a good attendance on so rough a day. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Rich, Marchbank, Irving and Thomas. Members stood in silence for a few moments as a mark of sympathy with Mrs P. Harrison who had suffered a bereavement. It was decided that the League be responsible for the free tea for soldiers on Sundaw July 26. contributions for which could be left at the Y.M.C.A. on that day. Mrs Maunsell then introduced the speaker, Mrs M. Cleghorn, who spoke on “Syria.” The description of this country, its topography, the life and customs of its people, was particularly interesting to many mothers who have had sons stationed there lately with the N.Z.E.F. Mrs Cleghorn has a pleasing way of presenting a travel talk; and was afforded a very hearty vote of thanks. Mrs Maunsell thanked the Rev. H. S. Kings for having granted the use of the hall for the meeting. Mrs H. R. Keltic entertained with two recitations. Afternoon tea was dispensed by Mesdames Watkins, Madsen, Kitchener and Perrin.
