ELECTRIC POWER
WAIRARAPA BOARD MEETING AT CARTERTON TODAY. STAFF’S SERVICES) APPRECIATED. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mr Campbell Pearce presided over the monthly sitting of the Wairarapa Electric Power Board .at Carterton this morning. There were also present Messrs J. H. Colquhoun, W. Howard Booth, C. Holmes, G. Hart. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Daniell, H. P. Hugo, N. C. C. Shepherd and W. A. Tate. The Featherston District Patriotic Committee and the Wairarapa Soldiers’ Hostel applied for a reduction in power charges. It was resolved that the Board could not see its way clear to make any reduction in the charges. The secretary-manager’s monthly report was read and adopted. The audited balance-sheet for the financial year ended March 31, 1942, was submitted and approved. Mr Brown was congratulated, there being no “tags.” Mr Booth moved and Mr Holmes seconded that the Board write to the engineer expressing appreciation of the work done by the Board’s employees during the earthquake period. Mr Booth said that the Board was fortunate in having such a practical staff, the members of which were always willing to do their best in the interests of the Be ard and the consumers. The motion was carried. It was also resolved to thank Mr Lambert for the services rendered by him to the Board in connection with the earthquake damage at Korarau, and that he be compensated for his services. Several Power Boards wrote offering assistance if required in connection ' with the damage sustained during the recent earthquake. It was resolved on the motion of Mr Holmes, seconded by Mr Colquhoun, that the Boards be written to expressing appreciation of their offers. The engineer’s monthly report was read and adopted. A special report on earthquake damage was submitted by the Board’s engineer, Mr H. B. Keenan. It was decided that MT Keenan confer with Mr Climie and obtain a special report from him regarding the Power Board’s tower. Mr Climie was the original engineer for the Board when the plant was built.
