STOP BANKS COLLAPSE DAMAGE TO CROPS. (“Times-Age” Special.) As the result of cracks caused by the earthquake the stop banks at Kahutara gave way under a heavy pressure of water about 6 o clock last evening. Fortunately, warning had been previously given to settlers to remove stock so no loss of sheep oi cattle is reported. Root crops, however, suffered extensively from the flood waters. War Time Service. A citizens’ war time service and concert will be held in the Cosy Theatie on Sunday .evening, commencing at 7 o’clock. The combined choirs will take part, and the speaker will be the Rev. J. R. Higgs. Personal items. Mrs Elbe has returned from a holiday spent at Lower - Hutt. Mrs Trask, accompanied by her daughters, Misses Zelda and Alison Trask, will shortly leave for Whangarei, where they intend to pay an extended visit. Mrs W. Feast is visiting Wellington for a few days. Plunket Society. The names of Mesdames Kershaw, Chapham and Knell were omitted from the list of those present at the annual meeting of the South Wairarapa branch of the Plunket Society. Mrs Q. Donald is hon. secretary-treasurer •of the branch and Mrs Roy Donald assistant secretary-treasurer. COSY THEATRE “NEW WINE.” Tonight’s splendid programme will be headed by the brilliant musical comedy, “New Wine,” featuring the famous stars, Ilona Massey and Alan Curtis.
