NAVAL CASUALTIES
AMERICA’S EXPANDING TOTAL. TWELVE THOUSAND SINCE PEARL HARBOUR. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) WASHINGTON, Jujy 13. The Navy Department has published a casualty list of 49 dead, seven wounded and 212 missing, covering the period from June 18 to 30. This makes a total of approximately 12.000 Navy casualties since Pearl Harbour. Eleven nurses serving in the Manila Bay area before the Japanese conquest are listed as missing, though they may haye been taken prisoner. Most of the casualties resulted from direct action against the enemy and some were lost in accidents at sea or in the air during active duty. The Navy department pointed out that some of the missing men were possibly rescued at sea and landed at isolated spots from which they are unable to communicate with the Navy Department. ’ _
