Mr Frank Corry, Masterton, has received advice that his brother, LanceBombardier John Corry, has been wounded in action. The death occurred at the Pahiatua Hospital on Tuesday of Mr George Gregory, a well known resident, at the age of 71 years. The death from heart failure of Mr James Barr Lauchlan, a well-known Wellington watchmaker and jeweller, occurred on Tuesday. Mr Lauchlan was born in Glasgow 56 years ago, and came to New Zealand with his parents when five years of age. As a young man he became associated with jewellery and watchmaking, making a start for himself in Palmerston North, where he conducted a business for 20 years. He then bought out the firm of E. Proud and Co., Victoria Street, Wellington, and later established branches of his business in Courtenay Place, Willis Street, and Woodward Street. The death has occurred of Mr Alexander James, a well-known Wellington architect, aged 69. He was the second son of the late Mr William James, whose association with the early development of the city began when he established himself in the furniture business on the Lambton Quay beach front in 1863. Mr James was a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Architects, and. followed his profession in Wellington till his retirement a few years ago. He was a member of the Masonic Order, and a past president of the Eastbourne Bowling Club. Mr James, who was twice married, is survived by his wife, one son, Mr C. A. James, Auckland, and three daughters, Miss Bessie James, Wellington; Mrs D. Lee Guard, Takaka; and Mrs J. A. Baine, Mauriceville. A sister is Mrs R. Pearson, Wellington.
