RATIONED CLOTHING
END OF SEASON SALES LIST OF COUPON-FREE. GOODS. 1 ANNOUNCED BY CONTROLLER. Provision for drapers to hold end-o£-season sales of clothing which is at present rationed and the conditions under which they may be held were set out in ai statement issued last night by the Rationing Controller, Mr J. E. Thomas. It also contains further amendments and additions to the clothing rationing scheme, clarfying points not already covered. The following additions are made to the schedual of coupon values:— Coupons. Frocks, dirndls, selling price under ill 2 Long dinner and evening frocks G Women’s two-piece suit or costume other than woollen or worsted, unlined 8 Men’s or women’s jacket, blazer or short coat, unlined (including sleeves) 5 Women’s coats, “4 or full length, other than woollen or worsted, unlined G Bolera Jacket with half or no sleeves 2 Knitted frock or suit 6 Nap trousers 2 Nap jackets 2 Waistcoat or vest Oily canvas coat G Rubberised, pliofilm or oil silk coat .. 8 Rubberised, pliofilm or oiled silk cape, sleeveless 8 Sleeveless jumper, cardigan, pullover or slinki 2 Women’s or girls’ sockettes (pair) .. */•> The coupon-value of knitting yarn has been reduced from to Vs-coupon per one ounce. The following are added to the list of coupon-free goods:—Bathing suits, gumboots and goloshes, travelling rugs, tapestry furnishing material, table baize, bretonne net, lace flouncings, diaper if torn or cut into squares, sou’-westers, berets and Pixie hats, bedspreads made of tweed (in place of bush rug). SALE FOR ONE WEEK. To enable drapers to clear encl-of-season stocks by holding their normal winter sales, any retailer may hold a sale for one week in the month of July at reduced coupon rates on the following conditions: — (a) The Rationing Controller must be notified of the week during which it is intended to hold the sale. (b) All goods must have been in stock on July 1. (c) The selling price must have been reduced by 25 per cent, or more. (d) A minimum of 1 coupon is to be surrendered for any garment. (e) The coupon-value of all goods displayed for sale must be clearly marked on each garment and any printed advertisement must also specify the coupon-values of the articles advertised. Subject to these conditions, the couponvalue of the following articles of clothing for women and girls only may be reduced by 50 per cent.; —Overcoat; raincoat; raincoat, sleeveless; costume, two-piece; fur coat; fur cape; fur necklet, tie or scarf; jacket, blazer or short coat; skirt, culottes; slacks, breeches; slack suits; jumper, cardigan or. pullover; dress, gown or frock; shorts; blouse; scarf, apron, blouse front; corselette; corset; gloves; hat other than felt or straw. Women’s shoes, boots, sandals and sandshoes may be sold durfng the sale period for one coupon, it' the price has been reduced by at least 25 per cent. In all other cases where half the couponvalue includes a fraction of a coupon, the general rule regarding fractions of coupons is to be applied.
