CROSSING FATALITY

INQUEST ON LATE MRS ETON’S DEATH. ADJOURNED SINE DIE. An inquest was opened last evening concerning the death of Mrs E. G. Eton, who died in Masterton Hospital yesterday morning. Mr L. J. Taylor, District Coroner, presided. Dr. N. H. Prior gave evidence to the effect that he was called to the Cornwall Street level crossing on June 4 and found Mesdames Eton and F. Whitton suffering from serious injuries and from shock, after their car had been struck by the southward bound mail train. The injured women were conveyed to the Masterton Hospital. Mrs Eton was suffering from a . crushed chest, rib fractures and an injury to one of her lungs. Although oxygen treatment was tried and everything possible done, she gradually became weaker and congestion of the lungs set in.
