Tank and Infantry Assaults Near Coast Thrown Back HEAVY FIGHTING ALL DAY LONG ALLIED AIRCRAFT UNCEASINGLY ACTIVE * \ LONDON, July 2. .Particulars of the repulse of enemy attacks in Egypt yesterday have been amplified. The first Axis attack was launched in the north, on the coast. The British troops fought fiercely and successfully. Enemy tanks and infantry launched the attack in close co-operation, but it was thrown back. They attacked again and were again thrown back. This went on all day yesterday. In spite of sandstorms, Allied fighters and bombers increased their activity. Bombers attacked enemy tanks and vehicles and fighters attacked landing grounds far behind the battlefield. Last night, British and American bombers pounded enemy targets, including Tobruk. Five Axis planes were destroyed over Malta today and others were damaged.
