HITLER’S CLAIM
THE REPORTED CAPTURE OF SEBASTOPOL NOT CONFIRMED YET GAINS ANNOUNCED IN NAZI COMMUNIQUE. TREMENDOUS EFFORT BY GERMAN AIR FORCE. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.40 p.m.) LONDON, July 1. A special announcement from Hitler’s headquarters states that Sebastopol has fallen and that the German and Rumanian war flags are flying over the town and harbour. Earlier, an ordinary German communique reported that the breach in the inner fortifications at Sebastopol had been enlarged to a break-through in several places and that German troops, supported by the Luftwaffe, had advanced to defend positions eastward of the town, while Rumanian troops had captured the town and harbour of Balaclava. „ The Moscow newspaper “Pravda said that from dawn yesterday until this afternoon, the Luftwaffe made over a thousand sorties over Sebastopol and advanced positions. The Moscow radio declared that, since the outbreak of war, Russian guerillas had killed 150,000 Germans.
