EKETAHUNA

SCOUTS AND CUBS SEVENTH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATED (“Times-Age” Special.) At the seventh birthday party of the local Scouts and Cubs there was a very large attendance. A Maori haka of welcome was given to Scout Commissioner Barton and Cub Commissioner Miss Gregor. Mr Barton congratulated the Scouts and said that Eketahuna should be proud of them. Scouting, he said, was one of the best teachers of friendship. Scoutmaster Gray and Mr J. M. Tolley, secretary, responded on behalf of the Scouts.

Cubmaster H. Smith was in charge of the Cubs. The Commissioners were welcomed with Grand Howl, and ,a Cub demonstration was given.

A recitation was given by all the Cubs present. A cornet and saxaphone solo was given by George _ and Rex Morriss, and “Waltzing Matilda” was sung by Scout Robin Raleigh. Scoutmaster Gray presented the Tenderfoot badge to the following Scouts: Colin Houlbrooke, Roy Brown, William Stewart, Eric Curtis, Shay Spring, Angus Drysdale, George Edwards and Donald O'Niel. Pathfinders’ Badges were presented to Pat Stewart, Richard Rogers, David Golder, Alex Golder, E. Drysdale and E. Hooper. The birthday cake was baked by Mr Taylor and artistically iced by Mrs J. Payne. On the top of the cake there was a replica of a Boy Scout and a Union Jack and on the sides Scout badges. The cake was cut by the oldest Scout. E. Drysdale, and the candles were blown out by the youngest Cub. Supper was served by a committee of ladies. Personal. Messrs A. and J. Jesson, who have been on a visit to Mr and Mrs G. Jesson, Alfredton Road, have returned to Wellington. ___
