NO WORRIES

ABOUT AMERICAN WAR PRODUCTION MR HARRIMAN CONFIDENT. “TORRENT ALREADY MOVING.” (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11.55 a.m.) RUGBY, June 30. “I have no worries any more about American production—l can only say 1 was tremendously heartened by what I saw and learned,” declared Mr Averell Harriman, summing up his recent visit to the United States in company with Mr Lyttelton, British Minister of War Production. ■ Speaking of Mr Churchill, with whom he returned to England, Mr Harriman said: “Every time he comes to America more seems to be accomplished in bringing the two nations closer together.” Mr Harriman stressed that he was not worried about the supply of rubber for military purposes. Synthetic rubber production was going ahead, but it took a considerable time to build factories. There would not be a great deal of synthetic rubber next year ,and American civilian requirements would have to be cut still further. Asked whether America faced a deficiency of raw materials, Mr Harriman said: “I think it is fair to say that at the moment I do not see any place where the war effort is going to be handicapped by a deficiency of raw materials, but of course that does not mean that we could not have greater and faster production. It is my judgment that, as the development of production in the two 'countries comes along, their people will have every right to be thoroughly confident in the quality and quantity of weapons. The shortage of shipping has not so far affected the transport of war materials to any theatre of war. The torrent which will come out before the end of the year is already moving.
